OnInOff is a technology developed by Onionlab, a studio with over twenty years of experience in designing immersive installations and interactive experiences that merge art, design, and technology. The platform was born from the need for an in-house tool capable of integrating light, sound, and visuals into a single, stable, and scalable system. Conceived to be intuitive and accessible, it can be used without technical expertise, offering brands, institutions, and artists a creative framework that seamlessly combines artistic freedom with technological control.

Spain Pavilion

OnInOff was used as the interactive system behind key parts of the Spain Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020, an exhibition space dedicated to sustainability and collective intelligence under the concept “Intelligence for Life”. The platform enabled real-time interaction between visitors and the digital layers of the pavilion, connecting physical space, movement and data-driven responses.

The exhibition journey is structured across two levels, each with a distinct experiential focus. On the upper floor, visitors move through a sequence of open spaces combining analog and mechanical installations. OnInOff supports the orchestration of interactive elements across these areas, allowing the experience to evolve dynamically as people move through the pavilion and engage with its content.

On the lower level, the experience culminates in the Forest of Intelligence, a large-scale artificial forest produced using 3D printing technologies. Here, OnInOff enables the connection between visitor presence, environmental data and digital behavior, transforming the forest into a responsive environment. A central digital tree reacts to collective interaction, visualizing sustainable habits and reinforcing the pavilion’s core message through real-time feedback.
